Landscapes
This report presents an island-scale landscape assessment of Corfu, developed through a green audit and informed by local knowledge of the island’s environmental, cultural, and infrastructural systems. Corfu is a mountainous coastal landscape, shaped by historical land management, and increasing pressures from climate change, and tourism-driven development.
Centering on the theme Restoring Landscape Through Symbiosis, the study explores how ecological processes, cultural practices, and human activity operate through connected relationships that impact environmental, social, and economic outcomes. The green audit is informed by systems thinking to map and evaluate landscape assets, vulnerabilities, and latent potential across the island. The report progresses from landscape description and analytical assessment to strategic direction and long-term vision. It establishes a conceptual framework for a landscape design approach capable of informing future planning, environmental policy, and landscape-based investment and management across Corfu.
